Our story is simple. When Alicia Golden returned from practicing with Guruji (the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois) in 2006, she decided it was time to create a space in Richmond that was dedicated solely to the practice of ashtanga yoga. Three months later, Ashtanga Yoga Richmond opened its doors in Carytown to five students, a lot of saw dust on the floor, and the motivation to build a community.
Alicia soon connected with current director, Kyra Haigh, and for the past decade AYR has been inspiring students and teachers to cultivate a love for this practice. In doing so, we have all been stretching beyond the physical postures on the mat.
AYR offers both guided and mysore style ashtanga classes for students of all levels, as well as complementary practices in meditation and prenatal yoga. We are committed to deepening our understanding of yoga as it integrates into daily life, and we're passionate about sharing these teachings to the community.
Anyone can practice ashtanga yoga as long as they are curious and willing to show up!
"Do your practice and all is coming." - Sri K Pattabhi Jois
